Across the nation, UPI and the banking industry are witnessing a disruption. Users using Paytm, BHIM, PhonePe, Google Pay, and other apps are having trouble making UPI payments. The problem has persisted for a number of hours. It affects UPI transactions conducted with a number of banks, including Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, and SBI. There have been updates on the ongoing outage for Downdetector. Banks and the NPCI have not acknowledged the problem in spite of user reports.
Unified Payments Interface, or UPI, and the banking industry appear to be experiencing a nationwide outage. Many customers have complained about having trouble using UPI-enabled apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, etc. to make payments.
Payments using UPI are not functioning.
Users on the microblogging site X are experiencing problems with UPI payments from about three to four hours ago, indicating that the issue has been ongoing for some time.
When consumers are unable to utilise UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, and even Paytm to make payments or transfer money, the complaints taken together imply that the entire UPI system is experiencing an outage.
On Tuesday night, several banks and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platforms in India saw server failures. Social media users brought attention to the problem of unsuccessful payments made through a number of banking applications, including those from HDFC Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bank of Baroda, among others.
Many customers complained that they were having trouble completing purchases using services like BHIM, PhonePe, and Google Pay, among others.
There have been complaints of continuous outages affecting UPI as well as banks like Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), and others, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.
According to a number of reports, there appears to have been a nationwide outage that affects UPI functionality across the nation, making it impossible for users of apps that support the Unified Payments Interface to transact or send money.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the banks have not confirmed the outage, despite several user reports about it. Regarding the underlying source of the problem and the reasons why users are unable to access their bank accounts to make UPI payments, no information has been disclosed.

When you really need it, everything is down—mobile banking, UPI, trading accounts, etc. When you start payment over UPI, the bank irritates you with the merchant. Kindly investigate it (sic),” wrote an impacted user on X, the previous Twitter.
Interestingly, a report from earlier in November 2023 stated that the government was considering imposing a minimum time limit on transactions that surpass a certain amount on the first exchange between two people. According to The Indian Express, which revealed the plan based on information from government sources, the plan called for establishing a four-hour window for the first digital payment between two users, especially for amounts over Rs 2,000.
